The Dirk Chaney Memorial Workshop is a music seminar devoted to educating singers on the dynamics and musicianship of gospel music in a church setting.  While music is the focal point, practical biblical principles are taught as they relate to kingdom living and church etiquette.

You may also wonder, “Who is Dirk Chaney?”  Dirk Chaney was a native of the Wichita area, and the son of the late Pastor David Chaney and Mrs. Armelia Chaney.  He was a musician and choir director who left the state after high school and attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.  It was in Atlanta where Dirk began singing with the Atlanta Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and the acclaimed Georgia Mass Choir.  He moved from singing to directing and finally, he not only established what is now known as the Dirk Chaney Memorial Workshop, but he founded Dirk Chaney & the Chosen Aggregation.  God saw fit to call Dirk home at the youthful age of 33, leaving behind a huge legacy that extends from Wichita to Atlanta, from Atlanta to Stockholm-Sweden, and abroad.

Since Dirk’s passing in 2002, the annual “Christmas” workshop was renamed “The Dirk Chaney Memorial Workshop”, now under the direction of his sister, Aletra Chaney Peeples.  We are growing in number and strength each year, and have seen record attendances.

The DCMWC will be awarding a scholarship to a high school student who is majoring in music.  We are thankful to God that we will be able to assist a deserving student in furthering their education. The Scholarship application can be downloaded by clicking the Word icon on the left. This application is due by December 9, 2017.  As an organizational leader, I would be delighted if you would consider contributing to this community effort.  As a representative of the Chaney family, I would be deeply moved by your tangible gesture to assist us in honoring my brother’s legacy.

Thanks in advance,
